Kate Winslet's Royal Regrets: A Laugh-Out-Loud Tale of Meeting King Charles

A Transparent Lace Outfit and a Whole Lot of Nipple Anxiety

Kate Winslet is sharing the story of her fashion faux pas when she first met King Charles nearly 30 years ago. The Academy Award-winning actress recalled the cringe-worthy moment during a Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, where she revealed she had forgotten she was wearing a transparent lace outfit when she met the future King.

Winslet, 50, met King Charles at the royal premiere of Sense and Sensibility in 1996, when she was just 20 years old. As the King made his way towards her, she suddenly remembered her, ahem, revealing outfit. "Nipples, nipples, nipples, oh my God!" she thought, quickly covering herself with her coat. "And someone just went, 'Coat!' and I went, 'Your Majesty!' basically covering myself in a cape."

Winslet has since become an ambassador for The King's Foundation, one of King Charles' personal charities. She spoke highly of the King, calling him a "very gentle, personable individual" and an "extraordinary man." At the time of her appointment, she said, "He's a person who's really concerned about the planet and the people, and that's something that I care about deeply."

Winslet also shared a funny story about meeting King Charles alongside Meryl Streep and David Beckham. The actress revealed that she and Streep had a quick conversation about whether they should curtsy, and if so, how deep the curtsy should be. "I don't know, we'll just make the most," Winslet recalled saying.
