A Behind-the-Scenes Blunder
Mad Men, the critically acclaimed series that captivated audiences with its portrayal of 1960s advertising world, has hit a snag. When the show landed on HBO Max on December 1, fans were treated to an unintended behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show – complete with glaring errors.
The Oyster Incident
In a famous scene from the first season episode "Red in the Face," Roger Sterling (John Slattery) throws up oysters on the Sterling Cooper office floor in front of clients. However, viewers quickly noticed two production team members behind Don Draper (Jon Hamm), controlling the stream of fake puke coming out of the side of Roger's face. These men were nowhere to be seen in the original 2007 broadcast.
More Errors Emerge
The episode was also mistitled "Babylon," and other season 1 episodes had incorrect titles. A visual effects snafu was also spotted in the season 2 episode "Three Sundays," where modern-day ads are visible in a scene featuring Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss).
According to PEOPLE, Lionsgate, the studio behind Mad Men, provided HBO Max with incorrect files. The correct files are on their way to replace the incorrect ones.
A Fresh Start in 4K
Despite the errors, Mad Men is now available to stream in 4K on HBO Max, offering fans a chance to experience the show's authentically-crafted elements with crisp detail and enhanced visual clarity. As Royce Battleman, EVP, Global Content Acquisitions at Warner Bros. Discovery, said, "Mad Men is a great addition to the HBO Max library of iconic content."
